Yaoi-KHAAAAN Review

November 3rd, 2010

IT WAS SO MAGICAL!

A big, big thank you to the readers who came by to say hello! It was such an honor to meet and talk with you! I was told by a few awesome readers that it was the other way around, but trust me- it humbles me and makes me thankful every time; you guys are the royalty and I am merely your jester! It means the world to me that you incredible readers take the time to look through Starfighter and enjoy the comic! Everyone was so kind and warm and beautiful.. You guys were really encouraging and I felt so grateful to be in your presence.

Here are some highlights!

There were a few comics debuting at Yaoi-con that I knew I had to pick up! One of which was Crown Royale, "comedic re-imaginings of classic fairy tales by boys' love artists!"

CROWN ROYALE

This is such a beautiful anthology; I was really excited to pick up a copy and it totally went beyond my expectations! The cover is really beautiful, just to start with, and the inside is filled with seven different stories and illustrations, all by awesome artists: Agent Agnes, JAB, Wensleydale & K. Sheldon, LMC, FrozenLilacs, Kelli & Kendra, Rosewine, Rosemary Travale, and TheYoungDoyer! I also had a dirty pinup in this anthology that was a quick addition- I can't tell you how happy I was to join the sexy Crown Royale group! It came out so well and I definitely recommend it if you like BL, great art, and light humor!

Speaking of which, I was seated next to Agent Agnes, JAB, and LMC in the Fan Market.. also across from Schumie and Nuu of HoneySyn fame, who were both dressed like a hot circus ringmaster and darling tightrope walker!

SHUMIE AND NUU

SO CUTE! In addition to being adorable, Schumie and Nuu are super sweet! Their comic debut was the Adamo Anthology!

ADAMO

The theme of Adamo is "strange love" but don't let that frighten you- it's an exploration of atypical characters and romances explored by an international cast of artists, which is really one of many reasons why this anthology is such a beauty. If you thirst for the unconventional in the BL and gay world and are ready for something different yet exceedingly hot and sometimes tragic, this is definitely the comic for you! It's 158 pages and features artists Nuu, Rolic, my homegirl LMP, and the Amei/W2/wredwrat combo of astounding art! These girls are all sweethearts and making their own craft; I couldn't be more proud of each of them! Thank you Schumie for all your hard work!

Another diamond of Yaoi-con is the Teahouse comic!

TEAHOUSE

Isn't it lovely?! If you read Starfighter, you might already know about Teahouse, but if you don't, I can't recommend this enough to you; it's an absolutely brilliant comic and the production value is just so astounding! I had the immense pleasure of meeting the creators, Emily and Christina, and oh man, THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL AND KIND! Seriously, they were such sweethearts! When you read their comic, know in your heart that it is made by two wonderful and loving and badass women! It was such a highlight to meet them both! Emily, thank you so much for the awesome drawing which I will cherish always; I love your humor and your awesome personality! And Christina, you are totally my hero! I am so inspired by you- you are fearless and so funny! Thank you both!

P.S. Here (18+ NSFW) is that fanart I gave them at the con! It's Rory and his mystery client!

My last must-have of the con was In These Words 1, made by Jo Chen's BL circle, Guilt Pleasure! I stopped by to pick up a copy and got to speak with Jo Chen, who was super sweet! (She mentioned that she liked Starfighter and I started to hide behind poor K. Sheldon because I was so flustered and honored!) Like the rest of Jo Chen's work, In These Words is gorgeous! It's such a joy to look at her lines.. and her profiles give me such pleasure! I'm a big fan of her style and I love that she can draw such badass content! Agent Agnes showed me her copy of Cruel to Be Kind, another of Guilt Pleasure's releases, and I ran back to Jo Chen to get one for myself! So addictive! She's a really amazing artist and a wonderful person, so be sure to check out her marvelous BL work!

JOCHEN

That's it for the merchandise, but I still have something glorious to show you!

BEHOLD:

TIBERIUS

I love this girl! I saw the Tiberius' fighter on the first day and I was so overcome with emotion! It was so surreal; the first cosplay I had seen in person! I was really overjoyed and Stacy looked AMAZING! She was so sexy and sweet! Thank you so much, my darling! You're amazing and beautiful!

AND THEN:

CAIN AND ABEL

I can't tell you how happy this makes me, I am also screaming again just looking at these photos! They were so gorgeous and amazing! I absolutely love these girls with all my heart! Cain was totally in character too- she bit me on the neck and I would be lying if I didn't tell you that it pretty much turned me on! They both had awesome costumes- Abel's pants even had the stitching on the side! They were so wonderful! Thank you so much, sweethearts!

I am totally biting my knuckles in excitement over this! Just.. thank you all so, so much! I honestly never thought this would happen, even in my delirious fantasies.. You are really so dear to me, thank you all!

If it's not considered bragging, I'd like to just say that my table neighbors this years were especially cool! I had Agent Agnes on my right, who is my good buddy and always cool (she was also rocking an awesome new haircut!) and on my left, I had the wonderful team from EnS who WERE SO SWEET! Seriously, they were so loving and wonderful! I bought a little handcraft mochi from them which I think captures the essence of Yaoi-con2010:

MOCHI

Also to the right was Jennifer from Plastic Obscura, who makes incredible crafts for BJDs! She was so friendly and lovable; totally made the con feel like a great community to be a part of! Plus, she is super beautiful and likes Die Form! I wanted to scream and hug her!

I met so many wonderful people! So many! And I loved them all with my very soul! My thanks to the beautiful Missirina for taking the trip down- you already know my psychotic love for you, but I had to say it again! My thanks to Jennifer from The Yaoi Review! It was great to meet Vera finally, who was so sweet! (I picked up a copy of the Gore book from her! It's FANTASTIC!) I also had the awesome honor of meeting Eric from 4th Dimension Entertainment, who was super cool and took time to talk with Thisbe and me- thank you so much! Also, Alex from Yaoi911 was there! He was super friendly and such a nice guy! We only spoke briefly and I was so flustered- my apologies, Alex! I hope we get to talk more in the future! Fawnfawn and C. Lijewski, you guys rock!

And last but not least, my undying gratitude and love to Thisbe, who was brave and amazing and so supportive! I couldn't do this without you and believe me, I would almost cry in gratitude and love when I stole glances of you at the con! Thank you so much. You mean the world to me.

Again, my thanks to everyone who stopped by my table! You really made this experience so wondrous and magical! I will try my hardest to make it out next year! It was so much fun!

Thank you!

P.S. I love each of you so much.
